CLOSE THE DOOR

I heard these words whispered a couple of times last week as I was scrolling for a few minutes on social media. I turned off my phone and sat quietly. I could feel my heavenly Father wanting to “parent” me.

“Kimberly, I have things I want to say to you, but I need your focus and clarity.  I want you to close the door on lesser things so I can fill you with spiritual things. I have revelation, plans, strategies, and answers to your questions. I’m waiting for you to clear your mind.”

I quickly realized that I couldn’t have it both ways. There is simply not enough space to “take in the world” and hear clearly from the Spirit. He was reminding me of my power of choice.

I was also made aware that I did not need to know the latest news, current events, and trends to do His will. His conversation with me was simple and to the point.

Close the door.

Close the door on the junk, noise, blatant sin, and filth we see scrolling every day. The reports and files are there until we close the door.

I repented, then went to Scripture to fortify my mind.

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. (Psalm 101:3)

The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. (Matthew 6:22–23, ESV)

Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.(Colossians 3:2)

We must tether ourselves to God’s Word if we are to hear our Father’s voice. He is always speaking. It is our job to listen with a clean heart and a clear conscious, giving Him space in our mind and spirit.

I wrote these verses earlier today on a plane. Tonight in service, we read this verse: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye” (Psalm 32:8).

Wow! Instead of being guided by our own limited eyesight, God said He will guide us with His eye. This promise in verse 8 comes after prayers of repentance and renewed focus in verses 5–7.

When we close the door on worldly things, we can see in the Spirit. “Close the door” invites us all to live unencumbered, higher, and free. On the other side of that door is peace and purpose. Make the daily choice to close the door.
