How Close Are We to the End? What Does the Year 5786 Mean for Us?
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Matthew 24:36, NIV).
According to the current interpretation of the Jewish calendar, we have just entered the year 5786, but there is some debate over this date. I have provided a link below to a very interesting article by Christopher Eames that addresses this debate. According to Eames, a period called “the missing years” could change the calculation of years from Creation by at least 165 years, which would put us much closer to the end of the sixth millennium. At a minimum, we could actually be in the year 5951 and possibly several decades later. Considering the prophetic significance of the six days of Creation and the subsequent Sabbath day of rest (the Millennial Reign of Christ), we may be closer to the end of this dispensation than we imagined. This leaves us wondering how or even if we should carefully consider the year 5786 prophetically.
Following the scholarly debate around the calendar gives us a much deeper appreciation of Matthew 24:36. Only God knows the time of the rapture of the church at the end of the age. Even angels don’t when the Father will decide to judge the world, but what we do know is that He will judge the nations. Scripture is plain about that:
When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. (Matthew 25:31–33, NIV)
Of greatest importance to us is that we are hearing the voice of God and staying in step with His Spirit. This is the eleventh-hour visitation, and we must reach the many billions of lost souls before this day of the church is over. Jesus said, “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work” (John 9:4, NIV).
So how should we think about the year 5786? First, we must ask ourselves if the meaning of the Hebrew civic New Year bears witness to what the Spirit is saying. Next, we must ask ourselves if God has allowed the current calculation of His calendar to be 5786 in much the same way that He has allowed the Gregorian calendar to exist as our present way of marking the passing of time in the modern secular world. Finally, we ask ourselves if God knew this is how mankind would interpret the calendar in 5786/2025, then should we simply embrace the meaning despite “the missing years” question mark? Of course, He knew. So there must be value for us to gain.
With this in mind, we move forward and test the meaning of these numbers in light of biblical prophetic patterns knowing that God gave the value to each of these numbers in the Hebrew language. Here is a simple breakdown of each of the numbers and their meaning: 5 = grace + 7 = perfection and fullness + 8 = new beginnings + 6 = connection. When you study 5786 from a standpoint of decades, 80 = the decade of Peh or mouth. This symbolizes the ever-proceeding word or rhema of God. When you add the concept of the sixth year, it corresponds with the Hebrew letter vav, a hook or peg, denoting the connection between Heaven and Earth, among other things. Google searches will provide an abundance of answers that go into much more detail. The purpose of this devotion is to help us put the Hebrew calendar in the proper context.
Understanding the times has many layers. It is important that we use the tools we have been given to rightly divide the Word of God. “Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15, AMP).
No doubt we sense the witness in ourselves that it is time to expand our capacity as Isaiah urged us: “Enlarge the site of your tent [to make room for more children]; Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not spare them; Lengthen your tent ropes And make your pegs (stakes) firm [in the ground]” (Isaiah 54:2, AMP).
We know we must declare God’s will in Earth as it is in Heaven. We know we have waited a long time for our prayers to be answered and the final harvest to be reaped. This year we will see the manifestation of the fact that the connection between Heaven and Earth is being made. More than ever, we must do the will of God—we must be the will of God. No more waiting. It’s harvest time.
“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. (James 5:7 NKJV).
