Praying Too Late
We often get ahead of God. We have our plan that we’re sure is going to work, and we expect God to bless it. We work in our own strength, our own agenda, and for our own causes…all too often.
When things don’t work out—the relationship fails, the investment dries up, the job wasn’t what was promised, the lifestyle catches up with us—we then realize that we prayed too late.
Joshua learned this lesson the hard way. His story is found in Joshua 7. Joshua was so confident that he knew God’s next move for Israel that he took three thousand warriors into battle without asking God if they were even supposed to go and fight. After the enemy slaughtered thirty-six Israelites, Israel ran and retreated.
Thirty-six people died, and their families were forever altered, all because someone didn’t pray before making the move.
Our God is interested in the details of our lives. He has amazing plans for us. He has wisdom for us. His ways are perfect. But God is a gentleman; He won’t force His plans on us. He promises to listen and answer our sincere prayers.
Look at this promise: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5–6).
If you will pray, acknowledge Him, and not lean on your own understanding, He promises to direct your path.
God will let you do it your way, but His way is so much better! If you want peace, full surrender is the best way to live. Remember He isn’t Lord at all until He is Lord of all.
Pray before you make all your moves and get ready to live in victory!
